File photo LAS VEGAS — A man who has been on the run for the past two years was arrested Friday in Nevada, according to a press release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Philip Langdon Hoare, 42, has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping, officials said. Hoare was arrested at his hotel room in Las Vegas on Friday morning, according to Lt. Ray Spencer. Officials said Hoare kidnapped his wife, Sara, and her mother, who he then attempted to kill, holding them captive at a home in Gilbert. Sara Hoare was able to escape on her own, officials said, and called police on Tuesday. During the investigation, detectives learned that Hoare was staying at the Hotel Indigo near the Las Vegas Strip, Spencer said. Police went to the hotel room on Wednesday and located Hoare inside. Sara Hoare called police and asked them to send an officer to the hotel room to arrest her husband, Spencer said. When officers arrived, they found Hoare was armed with a knife and held Sara and her mother hostage, he said. Hoare fought with officers before they were able to arrest him, Spencer said. The Hoares have been on the run for the past two years and have been living in a home in Gilbert, Utah, and Gilbert’s Alpine area, according to Gilbert police. Hoare, who has a history of mental illness and was hospitalized in Utah for a year and a half, has been in Utah’s Wasatch Mental Health outpatient clinic, officials said. Family members have said Hoare suffers from schizophrenia. Sara Hoare has filed for divorce from her husband. Sara Hoare, who now goes by her maiden name, Nichola Kocz is a TV news anchor at KSNV in Las Vegas. Here is the release from the Las Vegas Police Department: On August 14, 2017, at approximately 7:00 a.m. LVPD received a report of a kidnapping in progress. Officers from the Area 1 Violent Crimes Unit located a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital where she was treated and released.
